About us
Ysgol Y Deri is a special school for pupils which caters for a wide and diverse range of differently able pupils.

Hafan is a satellite provision (currently based at Gladstone Primary School, Barry) which caters for primary aged pupils with diagnoses of developmental trauma; attachment difficulties and social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Through a nurturing and trauma informed approach, we aim to ensure that their educational and therapeutic needs are met, enabling them to flourish both within our school and when they move on.

We are seeking to appoint Learning Support Assistants to join our highly successful team. The successful applicants will be required to undertake varied but rewarding roles at the base.
About the Role
Pay Details: Grade 4 (spinal points 5 - 7) £23,500 - £24,294 + SEN allowance (pro rata)
Hours of Work / Weeks per year / Working Pattern: 32.5 hours per week. Term time only (39 weeks)
Main Place of Work: Hafan - currently based at Gladstone Primary School, Gladstone Road, Barry.

Description:
The governing body wish to appoint caring, committed, and enthusiastic learning support assistants.
Whilst a background in additional needs is not essential, an understanding of the needs of learners with trauma and SEMH difficulties would be advantageous.
Under the direction of the teacher in charge, you will support the educational development of our pupils in a therapeutic way to ensure their physical, social and emotional needs are met.
Additionally, you will work collaboratively with other school-based professionals to carry out programmes of work.
There are opportunities to support the pupils in a large variety of activities at our other sites, accessing our state-of-the-art facilities.
Following a successful probation period, applicants will move to Grade 5 (spinal point 8 -12)

You will need to be:
- an excellent communicator and be able to use IT, both personally and to enhance learning opportunities for the students.
- highly organised and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- sensitive and understanding and have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- resilient, flexible, adaptable and open to change.
