Job Description - Learning Support Assistant

This post is required for 32.5 hours a week as a cover supervisor and 2 hours a week as an LSA. This post is a dual contract with post REQ4608 - we are therefore seeking one person to fulfil both roles.

Grade 3 - £20,812 for 2 hours per week term time only for 45.8 weeks per annum equating to £988.18 pro rata rising to 45.8 weeks, £1009.76 pro rata per annum after 5 years' service.

Grade 6 - £24,054 for 32.5 hours per week term time only for 45.8 weeks per annum equating to £18,559.38 pro rata rising to 46.8 weeks, £21,165.08 pro rata per annum after 5 years' service.

You will work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom or any other area of the school. You will support access to learning for pupils identified as having behavioural and emotional issues and to provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

Duties could include assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and may require detailed specialist knowledge in particular areas involving written planning/ organisation/ management and preparation of resources to implement specific programmes.

A primary focus of this post will be to supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, to maintain good order and to keep pupils on task. You will need to respond to questions and generally assist pupils to undertake set activities.

For this post, it is essential to have a relevant recognised qualification such as the NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants, Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education (previously known as the NNEB Diploma in Nursery Nursing), the NVQ Level 3 Childcare in Education, the City and Guilds Advanced Certificate in Learning Support. (A relevant professional qualification e.g., Teaching, Social Work or Nursing would be treated as equivalent for these purposes).

Also, A minimum of 2 years recent relevant experience which demonstrates the postholder has applied a wide range of strategies supporting children with additional needs and successful experience of delivering education programmes over a longer period, e.g., 6 – 8 weeks with minimum supervision only is also essential.

You will need to be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) for this post.
