Head Teacher - Lliswerry High School

Cyngor Dinas Casnewydd
Head Teacher - Lliswerry High School
Job information
Post No. POSN003239 - Head Teacher - Lliswerry High School

We are looking for an exceptional person who will lead our school with effect from January 2024 or later following the retirement of our highly respected Head Teacher.

Lliswerry High School is a mixed comprehensive school maintained by Newport Local Authority (LA) for the 11 to 18 age range. The school is situated in south-east Newport, approximately two miles from the M4 motorway and on the boundary between Lliswerry district and the more rural areas of Nash and Goldcliff. Built in 1974, it occupies a large and open campus and has the distinct advantage of being a single building under one roof. The school has worked hard to ensure that it provides an enabling learning environment and this is supported by excellent ICT, sporting and performing arts facilities.

We are proud to be an inclusive school with learners from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds and cultures. 31% of our learners have English as an additional language, with a significant proportion of those at language acquisition stage A or B. Our in-house Language Acquisition Team supports and integrates these learners into mainstream classes highly effectively. Currently, 45% of our learners are eligible for free school meals.

Our intake is growing annually and we now have 1,160 learners on roll, including Sixth Form. We have a teaching and support staff team of 104 which is growing in line with learner numbers. Lliswerry High School has been on a successful journey of improvement across all areas of the curriculum and this is continuing in order to ensure excellent provision for our learners. A key aspect of our school is the continuing improvement of the quality of teaching and learning to positively impact upon progress and outcomes at all levels. Provision and support for wellbeing and inclusion are also key strengths of our school.

The successful candidate will have a clear strategic vision for further school improvement and will work successfully in partnership with the local authority, community, governors, staff, learners, parents/carers and cluster schools. The ability to motivate others and to embody the school’s key personal qualities of ambition, belief, determination and resilience are essential.

The Governing Body are committed to appointing a Head Teacher who:

• Cares passionately about our children: all their thinking and decisions will be influenced by this.
• Has an aspiration for excellence, nurturing and developing our learners to reach their full potential
• Embraces diversity, in all its forms and builds trusting relationships
• Is brave and resilient and prepared to challenge and lead change for the benefit of the school.
• Has proven leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills to promote effective teamwork.
• Seeks to develop strong, collaborative working arrangements with all partners and organisations that support the school.

What we can offer you:-

• A highly professional, talented, innovative team of staff who are committed to progression and change in order to further the development of the school.
• A supportive community along with a committed and engaged Governing Body who are dedicated to working in partnership to achieve the best for all our learners.
• A cluster approach to working collaboratively
• A very supportive Local Authority
• An excellent, enabling learning environment
• Wonderful learners

If you have the skills, experience, passion, and ambition to lead and shape our school in this exciting opportunity, we would be delighted to hear from you.

THIS POST REQUIRES YOU TO BE REGISTERED WITH THE EWC.

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS).
