Gower College Swansea is seeking to appoint a new independent governors to join its Corporation Board from late September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future direction of one of Wales's leading further education colleges. We are looking for individuals who are committed to education and lifelong learning and who want to make a meaningful contribution to the communities the College serves.

We actively welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and are committed to promoting equality, diversity, and belonging, in line with the Equality Act 2010. The College is keen to ensure that the Board reflects the diversity of its learners, staff and wider community.

Experience of the further education sector is welcome but not essential. The College is seeking a Governor with audit experience, however, this is not essential and what matters most is a commitment to the College's mission, strong personal integrity, and a willingness to contribute to governance and strategic oversight. Training, mentoring and ongoing support will be provided to help you settle into the role and make a full contribution.

Independent governors:
  • Attend around six Corporation Board meetings per year, and sit on at least one committee
  • May be asked to act as a link governor in a specific area of the College's activity
  • Attend board away days and College events, including student celebrations and stakeholder meetings
  • Participate in training and development, including induction and ongoing briefings
As a general guide:
  • Preparing for and attending each meeting takes 3-4 hours
  • Committee Chairs and link governors may have additional time commitments
  • The role is unpaid, but expenses are reimbursed in line with College policy
