St David's Catholic Primary School: Caretaker

Cyngor Abertawe
St David's Catholic Primary School is a thriving, happy, and welcoming community at the heart of the Catholic families of West Swansea. We are proud of our strong values, caring ethos, and the respect and kindness shown by everyone within our school. We are now seeking a dedicated and proactive School caretaker to join our team-someone who takes pride in their work and wants to make a real difference to the daily lives of our children, staff, and visitors. This is more than a caretaking role. It's an opportunity to become a valued member of a warm and supportive school community, helping to create a safe, clean, and inspiring environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

About the Role
As our caretaker, you will play a vital role in maintaining and developing our school site. From ensuring the safety and security of the premises to supporting the upkeep of our grounds and facilities, your work will directly contribute to the positive experience of everyone in our school.

We're Looking for Someone Who:
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards across the school environment
  • Has practical maintenance skills (e.g. basic carpentry, plumbing, decorating - desirable but not essential)
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team
  • Can identify priorities and take initiative in a busy, dynamic setting
  • Communicates effectively with staff, contractors, and visitors
  • Understands the importance of health & safety and safeguarding
  • Enjoys being part of a school community
  • Is reliable, conscientious, and committed to doing a great job
  • Is physically able to undertake lifting, moving, and general site duties
  • Is willing to learn and engage in training and development opportunities

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • General caretaking and site maintenance
  • Supporting the safety, cleanliness, and security of the school
  • Carrying out minor repairs and overseeing maintenance work
  • Liaising with contractors and external services
  • Supporting and overseeing cleaning staff
  • Helping to maintain and enhance our outdoor learning environment

What We Offer
  • A welcoming and supportive school community
  • A role where your work truly makes a difference
  • Opportunities for training and development
  • A positive, values-driven working environment

Additional Information
  • Hours: Approx. 16.5 hours per week
  • (Monday-Friday: 7:00-8:00am plus 2 hours in the evening)

The successful candidate will act as a key holder.

Previous experience is helpful but full training will be provided.

If you are someone who takes pride in your work, enjoys variety in your day, and wants to be part of a caring and committed school team, we would love to hear from you.

St David's Catholic Primary School is totally committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Therefore, an enhanced DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check is required for successful applicants.

Applicants should, in addition, highlight other skills, expertise and previous experience they could bring to the role.

Closing Date: 14/05/26 at 12 pm
