Essential Skills Tutor

ACT
Are you passionate about helping others build the essential skills they need for their future? If so, we’d love to hear from you! We’re looking for two motivated Essential Skills Tutors to join our dynamic team.

In this fast-paced role, you’ll deliver and assess Essential Skills qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Literacy (Entry Levels through to Level 3). You will support a wide range of learners on Apprenticeship and Jobs Growth Wales+ programmes, whose starting points may vary from Entry Level 1 to Level 3.

Every day will be varied — from teaching virtual sessions to visiting ACT centres or learners in the workplace. Alongside delivery, you’ll manage a busy diary, complete essential administration, and work to programme deadlines.

Collaboration is key, as you’ll liaise with colleagues across departments to ensure learners progress smoothly and achieve their qualifications on time.

You will also use systems such as OneFile and Vision to manage your caseload, record learner progress, and ensure compliance with awarding body and Welsh Government requirements. As part of our quality-driven team, you will contribute to curriculum development, maintain your CPD, and follow departmental processes to ensure learners receive the best possible support.

We’re looking for someone who is not only skilled in delivering Essential Skills but also highly organised, adaptable, and confident in balancing teaching, admin, and travel in a thriving department.

The role is based from home with virtual Essential Skills delivery but will include delivery at ACT centres and employer visits. This role fits within the Essential Skills Team reporting to the Essential Skills Manager.

ACT is committed to promoting the Welsh language for both staff and learners, and whilst it is not considered essential criteria, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role.

What a typical day looks like:

Deliver engaging Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Literacy sessions virtually, in ACT centres, or at learners’ workplaces.

Support and assess learners at different levels, providing tailored feedback to help them progress.

Manage a busy diary of teaching, assessment, and travel commitments.

Keep learner records up to date using OneFile and Vision, completing essential admin and meeting programme deadlines.

Work closely with colleagues and vocational assessors to share progress and ensure timely achievement of qualifications.

Adapt flexibly to cover delivery where needed, ensuring learners receive consistent support.

Contribute to quality processes, attend training, and maintain CPD to keep your practice current.
