Attendance Support Officer

Fixed Term Grant Funded to 31/03/2026

Full time 37.00 hours per week/40 weeks per annum Term time only.

We are seeking to employ an Attendance Support Officer who will be part of a talented and committed team whose aim is to improve attendance at school, by removing barriers to engagement with learning, and for pupils to achieve their full potential and become confident, resilient and compassionate individuals. Working as part of a wider team you will provide support to the Education Welfare Officers, schools across Neath Port Talbot, pupils and parents/carers. This position is fundamental in ensuring that attendance at school remains high, by being proactive to early signs of disengagement.

We are seeking to recruit an Attendance Support Officer with strong communication and interpersonal skills. You will work to identify the cause of the absences and provide early intervention support; ensuring pupil voice is captured at all times.

The successful candidate will be responsible for

Effective tracking of young people moving out of county.

Supporting schools and the Education Welfare Officers.

Undertaking register consultations.

Early identification of irregular attendance.

One to one person centred approaches to help Identify barriers to engagement.

Joint house visits where applicable.

Attending meetings.

Pupil Voice

Provide advice and guidance where difficulties and/or barriers to engagement with learning has been established.

Provide targeted attendance support, through our attendance 'task force' process.

Ensuring a high standard of excellent attendance for all pupils.

You will have experience in/of;

To be successful in this role you must have experience of partnership working and be able to demonstrate positive support to children, young people and their families gaining improved outcomes.

Experience of working with schools and improving the outcomes of children is essential; along with a solid understand of the use of management information systems such as SIMS/EMS/Capita One.
