There’s no place like St. Andrew’s!

We truly believe that there’s no place like St. Andrew’s! We provide the very best opportunities for all our pupils, to engage them through first-hand experiences and to enrich their curriculum as widely as possible. We work together to create an environment for learning, through a blended approach, that allows our children to be happy and safe; an environment that allows stimulating, interactive, experiential play and learning opportunities fit for the 21st Century. St. Andrew’s prides itself on being at the heart of its community; situated on the eastern side of Newport it is a large primary school (capacity for 740 pupils) that serves an area that is socially disadvantaged. At St. Andrew’s, one strength is the positive ethos and team spirit; we believe that diversity is a strength, to be respected and celebrated by all those who learn, teach and visit here. St. Andrew’s Primary School’s ethos and high-quality inclusion for pupils with ALN are a significant strength of the school. We aim to ensure that everyone has the same chances and opportunities irrespective of race, sex, class or disability. Our school motto is ‘Learning together, we reach for the stars’.

The Head Teacher and Governing Body of St. Andrew’s Primary School are looking to appoint highly motivated, flexible, enthusiastic, reliable and caring teaching assistants (Level 3).

These roles are initially to take a lead in reading and numeracy interventions in Year 1 and Year 2. Duties will include supporting individuals and groups of pupils using specialist skills, training and experience. This will include planning, delivering and evaluating learning experiences for groups of young learners both indoors and outdoors. You will also contribute to teacher’s planning and assessments and occasionally supervise whole classes during short term absences of the class teacher.

You will have experience in a school setting and an understanding of creativity and how young children learn. Alongside this proven experience of developing high quality play, in the indoor/outdoor classroom. You will have excellent Numeracy and Literacy skills to support our early readers, writers and mathematicians as you will be required to support children in developing their early basic skills.

You will have NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification. Patience, understanding, a caring attitude and the ability to provide support and build positive relationships is essential in this role.

You will be a team player who is able to organise and plan their own time with initiative. If you are motivated by how children learn and are able to inspire our younger children then we look forward to hearing from you.

Holidays must be taken during school closure periods. The appointment process will involve an interview with members of the school leadership team and a selection of Governors.

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS).
