Attendance Support Officer

Cyflog: £25,545.00 - £28.770.00 pro rata per annum

Fixed term Grant Funded to 31/03/2025.Full time 37 hours per week/40 weeks per year term time only.

We are currently looking for an Attendance Support Officer to join our team, to assist our drive to increase attendance at school.

Attendance at school is a legal requirement; regular attendance at school has many essential benefits, which help enable a young person to achieve their potential. Working as part of a wider team, you will provide support to the Education Welfare Officers, schools, pupils and parents/carers to ensure regular attendance at school for all pupils is achieved. You will work to identify the cause of absences and provide early intervention, person centred support; obtaining pupil voice all times, to help remove any barriers to engagement.

On occasions where improvement is not successful and there are no acceptable reasons for the level of absence, enforcement will be considered through fixed penalty notices or Court action via the schools Education Welfare Officer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Effective tracking of young people moving out of county.
  • Supporting schools and the Education Welfare Officer.
  • Undertaking register consultations.
  • Early identification of irregular attendance.
  • One to one person centred worked to help Identify barriers to engagement.
  • Ensuring regular attendance at school.
  • Joint house visits where applicable.
  • Attending meetings.
  • Pupil Voice
  • Support and provide advice when there have been identified are difficulties and/or barriers preventing access to education.
  • Targeted Attendance Support (TAS), such as a task force where identified, daily absence response, meet and greets, truancy patrols, target groups, and other tailored initiatives for specific schools.
You will have experience in/of;

To be successful in this role you must have experience of partnership working and be able to demonstrate positive support to children, young people and their families gaining improved outcomes.

Experience of working with schools and improving the outcomes of children is essential, along with a solid understand of the use of management information systems such as SIMS/EMS/Capita One or other similar systems.

Ideally you will have;

-Minimum education qualification 4 GCSE's at grade C or above, one of which must be either English or Welsh, plus Mathematics, or a qualification of a comparable level.
