Newport City Council are keen to appoint 2 Senior Teaching Assistants each working 4 days per week on a fixed term basis up to 31st July 2025, to work in Blaenau Gwent Local Authority schools. The purpose of the roles is to continue supporting capacity building within schools, in order that they are able to sustain and maintain support to learners arriving from outside of the UK. You will only be working across Blaenau Gwent local authority, so travel is a necessity and own vehicle is essential.

Your role will be to complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under supervision. This will include:

• planning and delivering of learning activities, monitoring, and assessing pupils, recording, and reporting on pupils' achievement, progress, and development.

• taking a lead role in developing curriculum, language and learning strategies for newly arrived pupils in schools across the Blaenau Gwent authority.

• supporting families by attending meetings when required and liaising with relevant stakeholders such as social services, schools, and safeguarding leads.

• Assist in the preparation of appropriate learning resources for schools and deliver sessions to schools on best practice.

• support schools to develop strategies to remove cultural and other barriers to learning.

• support schools to welcome new learners and celebrate culture and diversity.

• An awareness of further learning opportunities for those transitioning to Post 16.

• Both roles are to support pupils in Blaenau Gwent Local Authority only.

It is desirable that you have knowledge of pupil language acquisition development and can demonstrate strong communication skills and a commitment to continuous learning.

Good communication skills are essential as you will be required to participate, contribute, and lead in training and other learning activities as required.

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
