This post requires a suitably qualified and experienced teacher who has a clear vision of how to support schools in order to promote strong pupil progress within the Languages, Literacy and Communication (LLC) area of learning and experience (AoLE) - Welsh. The successful candidate will support the wider school improvement team to identify and share effective practice across the local authority (LA). The successful candidate will take the lead role in developing Swansea's LLC strategy. They will have an excellent understanding of child/adolescent development and know how best to use this in order to support effective curriculum design/review, assessment and learner progression. The appointee will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles that underpin Curriculum for Wales and will be able to support schools and colleagues through curriculum reform. With a focus on providing high-quality professional learning, this post will require excellent presentation skills combined with a good understanding of the continuing professional development opportunities provided by national, regional and local partners. The appointee will support the development of policies and plans which aim to meet the objectives set out in Swansea's Corporate Plan.

Start date: As soon as possible.

Grant funded. Post to be reviewed annually.

Expectations

You will:
  • be a qualified teacher and hold a full and valid driving licence;
  • have recent experience of leading LLC and a proven track record of improving the quality of provision and outcomes;
  • Illustrate a commitment to the philosophy of Curriculum for Wales underpinned by a dynamic, creative and innovative teaching style;
  • be prepared to work flexibly within the team to achieve our shared objectives;
  • be an enthusiastic, motivated and well-organised advisory teacher who will work confidently on your own initiative with headteachers, teachers and governors (where necessary);
  • support schools to deliver their statutory duties and play a key role in maintaining and improving the quality of provision and outcomes for pupils;
  • be responsible for preparing and delivering high quality, inspiring training both centrally and in settings;
  • undertake regular visits to schools and settings to advise and consult on actions for improvement, to share effective practice and summarise your visits in report form;
  • provide support and advice on teaching and learning styles and on strategies to evaluate the quality of teaching and learning;
  • identify effective teaching and learning practice which can be shared within and across networks;
  • either directly or by commissioned support (as appropriate), identify common issues and contribute to resolving these through the development of a local authority literacy strategy and;
  • be well supported by a team of experienced advisers.
