Library Stock and Service Development Officer

Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week

Location of post: Library HQ, Neath Road, Briton Ferry, Neath, SA11 2BQ

We are currently looking for a person with some library knowledge to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Library Service book fund and monitoring the overall spend. This includes purchasing stock, processing requests, managing standing order plans and cataloguing stock.

The job would also involve developing relationships with internal and external partners to meet the needs of new audiences and identified target groups as well as actively promoting the use of the library service through storytelling, visits to care homes, working with the Heritage Education officer to provide engaging sessions for adults and children.

The main duties of the post;

To manage the Library Service book fund, to include monitoring the overall spend as and reporting on targets for the Welsh Public Library Standards.

To be responsible for purchasing and processing of requests, managing standing order plans and cataloguing stock.

To attend meetings on behalf of NPT library service which relate to stock management and the development/future of the service.

To organise and select Children's stock for Community Managed Libraries.

To create, run and manage Workflows reports relating to stock.

To ensure the Library Service has up to date and relevant reading materials.

To develop new stock policies for the Library Service.

To manage the Library Service's reading Group collection, Hooked on Books.

To encourage reading for health and wellbeing and support the council's corporate planning meeting wellbeing objectives set out by Welsh Government.

To develop effective relationships with internal and external partners to meet the needs of new audiences and identified target groups.

To actively promote the use of the library service through storytelling, visits to care homes, working with the Heritage Education officer to provide engaging sessions for adults and children.

To contribute to the delivery of a range of creative outreach projects and events across libraries, community groups and the health sector.

To work with the Senior Officer: Literacy and Library Development to deliver a programme of literacy and reading for pleasure events for schools.

To assist in supporting Community Managed Libraries.

To promote digital inclusion through library services

To support branch libraries in the successful delivery of National and Local projects eg. Adult Learner's week, Summer Reading Challenge, World Book Night etc

To take responsibility for one's own continuous professional development.

To undertake projects or any other tasks commensurate with the grade and duties of the post as required by the Library Service Manager.

You will have experience of working in a library or have some library knowledge.

Ideally you will have;

Good standard of education, minimum of 4 GCSE's or equivalent, grades A-C which should include English
