SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP SERVICE MANAGER

Cyngor Caerdydd
About The Service
Grade: CSM 4 (4 - 7 + 3 SPA)
Salary: £42,231 - £49,660

The Inclusion Service is part of the Education and Lifelong Learning Directorate and is responsible for ensuring the council meets its statutory responsibilities to children and young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). The service works with, supports and coordinates provision for children and young people with additional learning needs, their families and education settings to ensure that learners access their entitlement. This includes supporting smooth transitions into a range of settings or pathways based on their goals and aspirations.

About the job
The post 16 ALN team are part of the inclusion service and work jointly with Cardiff Commitment to drive forward employment pathways and outcomes for young people with ALN. In 2021, we teamed up with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to deliver a supported internship programme at the Heath Hospital which provided a successful route into employment for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism.

Due to expansion of the programme, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Young People's Supported Internship Service Manager to work with the post 16 ALN Team and Cardiff Commitment. This role involves:
  • Playing a pivotal part in empowering young people with learning disabilities to achieve their career aspirations.
  • Co-ordinating partnership working with existing and new stakeholders (including local employers and education settings) to create inclusive and supportive internship opportunities.
  • Overseeing and managing a range of supported internships, implementing effective monitoring processes to review their success, and make strategic and operational improvements to increase the number of young people with learning disabilities and/or autism entering the workplace and achieving sustainable employment outcomes that meets a business need.
  • Line managing and providing effective leadership to a team of tutors who deliver an employability curriculum to support young people's development and transition towards employment.
  • Working in close collaboration with job coaches and their management to ensure young people receive the intensive support and mentoring required to develop employability skills and access sustainable employment.

What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for a highly organised, motivated and passionate individual who holds high aspirations for young people with learning disabilities and a strong belief in their ability and right to work. You will be able to establish trusting relationships with young people and their families and inspire them to aspire to paid employment.

You will have extensive experience and evidence of successful inclusive working practice with young people with learning disabilities and/or autism and their parents/carers and other professionals. This will be coupled with excellent working knowledge of supported internship models and a proven track record of working effectively with employers and partner agencies, with experience of communicating with employers at all levels.

You will need high level influencing, negotiation and advocacy skills to be able to influence and engage businesses to offer and deliver supported internships, and the ability to problem solve, and to engage a range of partners in actions to resolve issues.
