Job description
Located with the Early Years Team, the Outreach Specialist Resource Base (SRB) Communication Worker supports children with Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN) in schools and settings across the borough, identifying those with more specific SLCN.

The Communication Worker will implement work programmes independently and /or under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist, Specialist Teacher or Team Leader Communication.

The successful applicant will work proactively with parents /carers and schools/settings staff to promote positive outcomes for children. They will assist in the delivery of the appropriate Elklan Let’s Talk programme with families identified and support families to implement the strategies to develop their child’s communication skills at home. This may be virtual or in school/community venues depending on the needs of the family.

While the post is based in Parc Y Felin ICC, the post holder is expected to work in an agile way across the borough and collaborate with colleagues within Early Years to support families to achieve What Matters to them.

The successful person will have the relevant qualification NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent Level 3 qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales. Ideally they would be ELKLAN qualified or have training in the relevant strategies to develop Speech and Language.

The successful person will be expected to learn basic conversational Welsh to support children within Welsh Language Primary Schools and childcare settings.

This post is primarily funded under Families First and as such is fixed term due to the terms and conditions of the grant until 31 st March 2025.
