About usThe role is within the Vale of Glamorgan Hearing Support Service which is part of the Vale of Glamorgan's Wellbeing and ALN Directorate. About the role
Pay details: Level 4 (SCP 14-19) + Special School Allowance, if successful applicant does not hold the desired qualifications for the role, post will start at Level 3 (SCP8-12) until the qualification is gained.
Day/ Hours per week: 32.5 hours - 5 days, Term time only
Description:
To provide support for hearing impaired pupils across all schools within the Vale of Glamorgan. Ensuring they have access to the curriculum and acting as a practical assistant during lessons as required. You will also need to provide support to all teachers and specialists involved.
The role involves supporting pupils with hearing loss to access the curriculum using a variety of communication approaches and enabling them to be fully involved in all aspects of school life. On a day-to-day basis, this entails in class support for individual pupils and one to one or small group work within the Resource Base. The pupils are enthusiastic, motivated and a delight to work with
The successful candidate will work with pupils with hearing loss across Key Stages 1 and 2.
The role may also require supporting the Hearing Support team with outreach work in other schools within the Vale of Glamorgan when needed.
About you
You will need:
- Previous and recent experience of working with children in a range of settings, preferably with children with a hearing Impairment.
- Excellent IT skills, along with experience of working with different software programmes.
- Experience of working with children individually and in groups
- Experience of working with specialist teachers, providing feedback and evaluations
- Experience of planning / adapting short activities for pupils
- Excellent pupil/teacher relationships
- Experience of monitoring and assessing pupils' progress
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Flexible approach to working
- HLTA qualification (if the successful post holder does not hold the necessary qualifications, the post will start at a Level 3 LSA role until the qualification is achieved, within a two year timeframe)
- BSL Qualification Level 1 or above
- Full drivers license with Business insurance
