An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced middle/senior leader to join our team at NHS to lead inclusion across the school. This is on a fixed term basis for one year, from 1st September 2025 until 31st August 2026. You should be an experienced practitioner with a strong background in Additional Learning Needs, with the necessary skills and experience to succeed in the role and to take advantage of this career opportunity to shape and lead our provision in a different setting.
Newport High School is an inclusive, comprehensive, 11-18 secondary school serving Bettws and Malpas. We have a very successful Sixth Form and are one of only 12 Rugby Academies in Wales, having ranked 23rd in the world for the number of students who go on to secure professional rugby contracts. With around 30% of our students entitled to Free School Meals we are a truly comprehensive community and work hard to instill our values of equality, commitment and integrity in everything we do.
The successful candidate will be fully supported in their role by an experienced and committed senior leadership team and a strong governing body.
The senior leadership team at Newport High School is made up of a Head Teacher, a Deputy Head Teacher and four Assistant Head Teachers (one of whom is part-time). We have a full time ALNCo in post.
This Assistant Head Teacher role is to lead whole school Inclusion including line managing our ALNCo, leading on all provisions and securing the best outcomes for learners with additional learning needs.
At Newport High School we align our curriculum to our core values and have six areas of learning – Create, Thrive, Explore, Connect, Reason and Discover. Our Area Leads work closely with our six Heads of Year to ensure that our students can speak with commitment, strive for equality and act with integrity.
Having recently been taken out of Special Measures, we are at an exciting point in our journey towards excellence and this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced middle leader with aspirations of Senior Leadership, or an existing senior leader who wishes to broaden their experience by working in a different setting to gain invaluable experience at Assistant Head Teacher level, leading whole school priorities.
Candidates, are required to secure ‘agreement in principle’ from their Headteacher before applying for this post.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and a comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on all applicants. This will include an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
