Deputy Education Safeguarding Officer

Permanent full time 37.00 hours per week.

We are currently looking for a Deputy Safeguarding officer to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for - We are looking to appoint someone to this new role who will support the work of the directorate and specifically the education safeguarding officer by reinforcing continuous improvement in safeguarding awareness and standards across the whole directorate.

The main duties of the post;

You will have specific responsibility and take a leading role in monitoring those pupils who are subject to part-time timetables. You will take a central role in undertaking safeguarding reviews, assessments as to the suitability of outside organisations involved with schools who provide an alternative curriculum and cross referencing to a school's support plan for that pupil e.g. Pastoral Support Programme (PSP).

You will provide knowledgeable and specialist advice to schools and other education professionals, assist with the development of safeguarding policies and practice and contribute to the delivery of informative training sessions to a diverse group of people including headteachers, designated safeguarding officers and governors.

You will need to be passionate about safeguarding and committed to protecting children and young people. Your ability to establish rapport and trust will be essential to be effective in this role as well as the ability to challenge practice and procedures when necessary and to maintain a high level of confidentiality whilst managing individual cases

You will have experience in/of;

You will need to possess excellent communication skills and from time to time, you might be asked to investigate, analyse, interpret and evaluate complex safeguarding cases and write detailed reports. You will work closely with statutory agencies and contribute to the further development of multi-agency partnership working e.g. Social Services, Police and Health.

Experience of working with schools and families is essential, as is an excellent working knowledge of local and national child protection procedures. You will have experience in this or a similar role relating to the protection and welfare of children.

Ideally you will have;

5 GCSEs (including Maths and English A*-C).

Degree, preferably in Education or Social Work.

Other relevant professional training e.g. Safeguarding, Child Protection, Designated Persons

We have an excellent record of safeguarding our children and young people in Neath Port Talbot, however, we are never complacent in this demanding area which is why it remains a key focus priority for the directorate and why we are seeking to expand the scope and staffing compliment of the service..
