Parkland Primary School - Nursery Teaching Assistant Level 4 - Supporting and Delivering Learning

Full time permanent post, required for September 2024 or as soon as possible afterwards. 32.5 hours per week. Park land Primary School is situated approximately 3 miles west of Swansea's city centre.

Parkland Primary serves a large area of Swansea West, comprising Sketty Park, Derwen Fawr and parts of Sketty. The school is situated within beautiful grounds which are comprised of three yards, two fields and a woodland area. The school serves a diverse population which includes a specialist teaching facility for children with moderate to severe learning difficulties from year 3 to year 6.

Central to the school's philosophy is that children learn best when feeling safe, happy and secure. Much emphasis is placed on children learning from first hand experiences and being immersed in their learning. We foster motivation and enjoyment in learning through providing a broad curriculum which focuses on academic progress, sports, the arts and thinking. We have firm beliefs in learner voice and children's rights and encourage pupils to develop a sense of responsibility and to show consideration for others through restorative practices.

We celebrate successes to develop self-confidence, and foster self-efficacy to develop children's abilities to understand themselves, impacting upon self-reflection and improvement. Our school nurtures pupils' metacognitive skills. By fostering pupil's metacognition, we enable pupils to set goals, reflect on their learning, and adapt strategies, facilitating both academic success and personal growth.

The governing body wish to appoint a committed and excellent Higher Level Teaching Assistant who will lead learning in the early years setting.

The successful candidate will:
  • have experience supporting learners within an early years setting
  • have a good understanding of foundation learning pedagogy
  • be familiar with the principles of the Curriculum for Wales
  • be motivated to lead engaging activities for children to develop their self-confidence, resilience and independence so that they can make excellent progress in their learning
  • engage with parents and carers to give them feedback on their child's learning through a mix of informal discussions, parent engagement events, termly parents meetings and progress reports
  • have high expectations for all children
  • carry out duties and responsibilities as set out in the job description
  • have excellent communication skills and be committed to building positive relationships with the children, parents, staff and governors
  • manage a nursery class and give direction to other members of staff
  • take direction from the nursery manager
  • be able to work effectively as part of a team in conjunction with the nursery manager, lower phase leader, headteacher, ALNCo, Senior Leadership Team, staff, children and governors
  • be willing to contribute to the broader life of the school community

The ability to drive and ownership of a car would be desirable. This is subject to confirmation of funding and a satisfactory 6 months' probation period.
