The post is intended for applicants who aspire to train and work as educational psychologists. Applicants must have already attained an undergraduate and/or higher degree granting Graduate Basis for Chartered membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS). It is expected that the successful candidates will, in time, apply for a place on a recognised doctorate in educational psychology, which grants eligibility to register with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a practicing psychologist and, subsequently, chartered status with the BPS.

Candidates must also have experience of working directly with children and young people, ideally, in educational settings. Qualified teacher status (QTS) is desirable, but not essential. The successful candidate will receive professional supervision from qualified educational psychologists, but will also be expected to work flexibly, manage complex work streams and meet tight deadlines. The psychology service offers lots of opportunity for colleague support, there is a very strong team ethos.

Candidates will need to show an understanding of the unique contribution psychologists can make to the learning and development of all children. The successful candidate should also have knowledge of the ALNET Act (2018) and The Additional Learning Needs Code for Wales (2021).

If appointed, you will be responsible to the Principal and Senior Educational Psychologist, working to key strategic plans. The work will be varied allowing experience of mainstream duties.
