Start Date: September 2024Abersychan School is an 11 - 16 co-educational comprehensive school which meets the needs of children of all abilities. Our aim is simple, we want every person to fulfil their potential, whatever their talents and ambitions. We are a school that is committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for their lives beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a highly committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring each child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 770 students, 50 teachers and 58 members of support staff. The school serves an area of significant socio-economic deprivation with 32% of students entitled to FSM and 51% of students living in the 20% most deprived areas of Wales.
The aims of the school are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural,
musical and extracurricular activities. The students are happy, hard-working and positive about the school. They genuinely are an asset to our community and are incredibly friendly. They want to receive a high-quality education and to become successful students. We have fantastic parents and governors, who are extremely supportive in supporting the school to provide the very best education.
The Science department at Abersychan School is a successful, hardworking and dynamic team with a shared vision to ensure that all students experience the highest quality teaching and learning to achieve their best. The department consists of 6 full time teachers covering all 3 specialisms and a laboratory technician. The Science department is well resourced, with standard scientific apparatus to support practical teaching of the curriculum and digital teaching resources including interactive whiteboards, visualisers and Chromebooks in six vibrant laboratories. Science staff have embraced the use of digital technology to engage students and provide opportunities to develop independent learning skills. An outdoor area including a telescope, greenhouse, ponds and planting area is also used to enrich learning and support STEM projects.
If you are excited by the prospect of playing a significant role in helping us achieve our ambitions, have a belief that all students, no matter what their background or ability, can achieve and have a passion for providing an outstanding education, then, we would love to hear from you! In return, we will guarantee you the very best level of support.
