Cardiff and Vale College's Foundation Learning department deliver courses for young people with Additional Learning Needs and/or Disabilities and those at risk of becoming NEET. The department grows year on year and our curriculum for 2023/24 includes 32 courses for 400+ potential learners across 4 different sites. Our person centred and outcome driven courses are organised into the following areas:
  • Foundations of Independent Living
  • Foundations of Work
  • Foundations of Study
All Foundation Learning courses use a mixture of traditional classroom-based lessons and project-based learning, to create a vibrant and engaging curriculum. Our team use their wider skill sets and work history to enhance the curriculum, ensuring that our students are skilled and employable people. We are passionate about teaching and learning and recognise that like our learners, each new staff member has had their own learning journey. For this reason, we pride ourselves on our CPD program focusing on what we teach and how we teach it and offer regular workshops and termly CPD focused on making teachers confident that they are making an impact in the classroom.

An exciting opportunity has become available teaching on our Foundations of Study courses based at our City Centre and Colcot Road sites. Our Vocational Access courses are designed to engage young people and give them the skills, qualities, and experiences to progress to subject specific Further Education courses. We are looking for tutors whose practice empowers learners to take ownership of their own learning journey; enabling them to self scaffold and manage positive behaviours that ensure that they meet their learning goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for subject planning, delivery and assessment, ensuring a positive and value-driven experience for Learners. We are looking for passionate, committed teaching professionals who can consistently teach excellent, inspirational lessons. The role has potential to grow depending on the needs of the department and the skill set of the applicant.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have experience of one or more of the following:

-Delivering and assessing Application of Number Essential Skills qualifications to level 1
-Delivering and assessing work-based skills
-Delivering and assessing on non-accredited programs of study
