As an established agency, we work with many Secondary Schools throughout South Wales and successfully place teachers on a day to day basis and also subject specialists for long term posts.

Day to day short-term supply teacher positions are offered within various Secondary Schools and long term Secondary Teacher posts within a particular school.

For day to day, short-term cover, you may find that you are covering classes that are not your specialist subject therefore you would be carrying out the role of a General Supply Teacher. As a General Supply Teacher and covering lessons that are not your subject, you may not be expected to carry out 'specified work' but to classroom manage, maintain discipline and ensure that pre-prepared work is completed by pupils. A School may request a subject specialist for short-term cover therefore you would be expected to teach your subject and carry out some aspects of 'specified work'.

Affinity Education proactively assists our registered Supply Teachers in securing you long term teaching posts. Generally long-term cover is required to cover a period of maternity leave or long-term sickness. Once you are placed within a long term booking as a subject specialist, you would be expected to fully carry out 'specified work'. This means, planning, preparing and delivering lessons to pupils and assessing and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils. This may include attending departmental meetings and parent evenings.

The Role of a Teacher: -

• Plan and teach lessons and sequences of lessons to the classes they are assigned to teach within the context of the school’s plans, curriculum and schemes of work.

• Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and
achievements of assigned pupils.

• Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for external
examinations.

• Promote the safety and well-being of pupils.

• Maintain good order and discipline among pupils.

These posts are subject to a satisfactory up to date Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check and Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014, all School Teachers will need to be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).

Affinity Education adhere to the October 2011 Agency Workers Regulations (AWR).

Whilst seeking a permanent post, Affinity Education can assist you in seeking suitable short and long-term positions to gain experience within your chosen profession.

Completing Induction: -

Induction is a statutory requirement for all newly qualified teachers (NQTs) in Wales who have gained qualified Teacher status (QTS). The statutory induction period provides all newly qualified teachers with a transition from initial teacher education and training to effective professional practice.

Newly Qualified Teachers, in addition to completing induction whilst working as a long term Supply Teacher (typically during a period of three full school terms), can also complete induction whilst working as a short-term Supply Teacher, once 380 school sessions (one session is equivalent to a morning or afternoon of teaching) have been completed. There is no time limit to completing the 380 sessions but NQT’s must provide evidence of meeting all the relevant professional standards.

We look forward to hearing from you.
